James Thompson: Heading for home.

Friday, 21st September 2007

N.technology man prepares for home rounds of the WTCC.

I’ve been looking forward to this weekend’s races for quite a while now. There is nothing more special, apart from winning a title, than racing on home ground and Brands Hatch should be a great!

The last few weeks have been entirely focused on preparing for this weekend as well as promoting it. As one of only three British drivers in the WTCC, I have been able to take part in quite a few promotional activities recently such as the official press conference held in London on Monday.

The whole thing is quite an experience for any driver. We normally tend to focus on driving and training most of the time, but it’s great to get the chance to talk about our sport too.

As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, Brands Hatch is one of the tracks I know best and with two recent podiums (in Anderstorp and Oschersleben), the team and I feel confident we can achieve two great results this weekend.

Another encouraging fact is that I have outscored everyone else in the last four rounds, something which obviously helps towards the driver championship but also adds to the team’s morale.

With 22 points to make up in order to catch the current leader Augusto Farfus, the title is still a possibility with six races left this year. The Alfa Romeo 156 is driving better than ever and although we will be carrying 55kgs of success ballast this weekend, the fact that I know the track so well should help.

Lastly, the grandstands will be full of British crowds and, although I’ll be sharing the local support with Andy Priaulx and Robert Huff, I am definitely counting on the fans’ support to make a difference.

I hope to see you all there!
