James Thompson: Heading 'home' – again!

Friday, 5th October 2007

James Thompson looks ahead to the home round of the World Touring Car Championship season for the N.Technology team.

We scored our fifth podium of the season during the UK round two weeks ago and I’ve now moved up to fifth in the drivers championship; all good news, but I’ll admit I really wanted that win at Brands Hatch.

N.Technology was fastest during both the free practice sessions on Sunday and again during most of qualifying so a victory was definitely on the cards, but we just couldn’t convert it.

I guess some people would say that second was pretty good, and it is certainly better than spectators were expecting at the beginning of the year. But as a racing driver, it’s almost worse than coming sixth! You’re tantalisingly close to the best prize and that just drives you mad; especially when you’ve got all the hope and expectation of a home crowd.

I’ve got another shot at it this weekend though. N.Technology is based not too far from Monza so hopefully I’ll be able to deliver a home-coming gift for them! They really deserve it after the miracles they’ve worked this year.

Monza is a very fast track so we’ve set the car up accordingly. I’ll be carrying maximum ballast, 60kg, which is always tough but it’s only 5kg more than at Brands Hatch and the car was great there.

The Alfa Romeo 156 is very good aerodynamically with very low drag and that will help a lot at Monza. As this is the penultimate round for the 2007 season (already!), a good result is crucial if we want to stay in contention for the title.

Nine drivers, including myself, went to Macau with a shot at the drivers championship last year and I’m aiming to be in the same position again this year.

Thanks for the support,

JT
