Competing on their home track, SEAT Sport have conveniently chosen Valencia as the venue at which their León will be used across the team with Rickard Rydell and Peter Terting joining Jordi Gené in the brand new car. Although expected to struggle somewhat at Istanbul, SEAT held their own on the long straights, although a fifth and seventh for Rydell was all the team had to show for by the end of the weekend. It was particularly disappointing as it was Terting and Gené who showed the most pace in the SEAT only for an accident and an engine problem respectively to prevent the pair from finishing in the points.
Terting even produced a storming drive in the second race to rise from the back of the grid for tenth place. However, it is Rydell who remains well in the fight for fourth in the driver’s championship. Currently lying in sixth place, Rydell’s consistent scoring means he is just six points behind Tarquini. The Valencia circuit is expected suit the new León much more than Istanbul, particularly as it is where the car has undergone the majority of its testing.
"I’m really looking forward to Valencia for a number of reasons”, says Gené. "It’s my home race, it’s the team’s home race and it should really suit the León. After all the work we’ve already done at Oschersleben and Istanbul, we’ve been progressing quite well – even at Istanbul, where we didn’t expect the car to be so competitive. It was important that my team-mates joined me in driving the León as soon as possible, so that they can help in developing the car."
