When the lights went out I nailed it, my start was perfect, minimal wheelspin and I passed two or three cars before the first corner. By the time I was out the back of the circuit going into dingle dell I had passed two more drivers. Once I had settled into the race I knew I was really quick, I pulled off the best passing maneuver of my career on Corthals on the outside of Paddock Hill bend in the wet on full opposite lock! I am proud of that one! I eventually had passed enough cars and Independents to be in second place behind Tom Coronel. I tried the same move on him as I did on Corthals but he was more defensive I had to cut back inside and pass him on the way into druids. I was thinking to myself that this was such fun and that it was easy driving in these conditions!
One lap later I was in the gravel trap! My gearbox developed a problem that caused me to change from fifth gear to second gear on the first occasion, which somehow I managed to hold on to it but the second time coming into Stirlings I changed from fourth to first gear, the back locked up and sent me spinning into the gravel. The only word I have is devastated!
For race two it was lashing it down. Again I was starting close to the back of the grid because of my non finish in race one. With Jörg Muller, Nicola Larini and Farfus along side me! Again I got a good start, but I have never experienced such horrendous visibility. Coming down towards Paddock I actually could see nothing, it was total guess-work! The first lap was just about staying on, I had a bit of a battle with Jörg, he was very fair and we gave each other room on the circuit.
