We both had a terrible first lap, I spun on standing water, as did he I think. We both rejoined and I let him pass thinking that he would be really quick and I would get pulled along with him, but I was quicker than him and I passed him out a lap later and concentrated on catching the pack - when I did it was damage limitation time, I passed a couple of drivers and caught Ceresoli for fourth in class and 17th overall, that was the best I could do. I needed a finish and points.
I am now tenth in the championship and a little frustrated to be honest; a non-finish in Monza when I was lying second and then a non finish in
Brands Hatch when I was leading both due to gearbox trouble bothers me. I would now be a comfortable second in the championship! But that is racing for you… I had a lot of support at Brands which was really nice, all of my family travelled over apart from sister who was baby-sitting my Bengal kitten! Mick Merrigan my manager/mentor was there to give his unrivaled 100 per cent enthusiastic support and advice! And Gavin Smith who races in the BTCC flew over especially. Sean Green from
BMW Ireland came over to support too, as well as others.
On now to the Oschersleben, Germany. I know this circuit pretty well and I have a fair bit of mileage around there so I will once again be hoping for that first Independent win. I need a good run at the weekend with no mechanical failures so as to maximise my potential. Until then I will be training hard and meeting with my sponsors to update them on my progress.
Until next time,
Take care.
