Now back to my exciting few weeks. I was driving the
F1 car at the BMW Sauber Pit Lane Park in
Silverstone over the Grand Prix weekend, and it was just amazing. We had a good time, I believe the fans enjoyed themselves and we had a record attendance for this facility of over 25,000 people. There were lots of them coming to see me drive the car down a 90 metre stretch of tarmac and do donuts either end, which was fun for both them and me. There was also Euan Hankey in the Formula BMW car and lots of games and interactive stands for the fans to get involved in. This was the first time I had driven this particular F1 car and I really loved it. I know it was only for short bursts, but these cars are amazing and this one seems very well engineered.
The whole Grand Prix weekend was special for me. I took the family along in the motorhome and there we were parked at the BRDC farm site with Jacques Villeneuve,
David Coulthard,
Jenson Button, Keke and
Nico Rosberg, to mention just a few. It was great, especially as the weather was good. However, I have to admit the whole weekend was really hard and I seemed to be rushing around a lot. When Sunday night came I was tired, but not too tired to bogey away with Status Quo.
Then on Monday it was down to London in preparation for another great day, thanks to
BMW, with its F1 sponsor Intel. This was in Hyde Park on a 300 metre stretch of road. Jacques was running in the F1 car and I had both my WTCC car and the M5 Safety Car from the Formula BMW UK Championship. The day was fun and the crowds loved it.
