Jorg Muller claimed his first World Touring Car Championship win for over a year after easing to a comfortable victory in the second race at his home Oschersleben track.
Having seen Andy Priaulx take victory in the opening,
BMW maintain a stunning record at the circuit, having claimed nine of the last ten races there, while Dirk Muller's third place was enough to ensure the 320si was the car to have through the weekend.
In a race largely devoid of much action as drivers struggled to find room to overtake, the start proved to be the deciding moment of the 14 laps, with Jorg leaving pole sitter Peter Terting for dead at the lights.
Such was Terting's poor start, the SEAT was down to fourth place by the first corner having been overtaken by the Alfa Romeo of Augusto Farfus Jr. and surprisingly by Dirk Muller who rocketed off the line from seventh to slot into third place.
From here though the race became more of a psychological battle with Farfus initially putting pressure on Jorg Muller for the lead but as his 156 Saloon began to lose momentum he had the second Team Deutschland BMW on his tail for the final part of the race.
Nonetheless, the Brazilian did enough to claim his best result since the first meeting at Monza behind Jorg Muller, with Dirk Muller following him to ensure he comes away from his home race with the most points of any driver.
SEAT kept up the pressure on BMW in the manufacturers' standings by claiming fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, with Peter Terting recovering from his shocking start to lead Rickard Rydell, James Thompson, Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller across the line.
Indeed, the battle for the final point was arguably the most heated, with Andy Priaulx unable to make as quick a getaway as Muller and being put under pressure from Rob Huff, who had battled up to ninth place from 12th on the opening lap.
