With the Chevrolet all over the back of the
BMW, Huff dived down the inside at the Shell Esses, but after losing momentum as a result, Yvan Muller capitalised by following him past Priaulx and then slipping up the inside of the Brit two corners later despite his 70kg of ballast.
Although Huff and Priaulx had the faster cars underneath them, Muller was able to hold onto position to the chequered flag but after his race one disappointment, he still only comes away from Germany with a single point.
Tom Coronel took his second easy victory of the day in the Independents category on the way to finishing in 12th place, some six positions ahead of second placed Ryan Sharp, the Scot recovering from the back of the grid to move into second place in the championship.
The drivers' championship though could hardly be any closer, with just two points covering the first six drivers.
Yvan Muller and Priaulx are currently tied at the top of the standings, one point ahead of Thompson and Dirk Muller, while the ever-consistent Tarquini and Rydell make up fifth and sixth places.
The teams now have a month's break until the next two flyaway races, with a first visit to Brazil's Curitiba circuit, as well as a return to Puebla in Mexico.
