Despite relishing the challenge of making his street race debut in the fourth round of the World Touring Car Championship at Pau, Emmet O'Brien was missing the dose of luck required to progress around the legendary French circuit.

Forced to line-up 22nd on the grid courtesy of a subframe failure on his GR Asia SEAT Leon not long into qualifying, O'Brien held steady in the first race to cross the line as the fifth Independent Trophy runner, the Irishman acquiring four points in the process.

However, the second race proved a disappointment when O'Brien was innocently involved in a crash in front of him between Stefano D'Aste, Sergio Hernandez, Miguel Freitas and Luca Rangoni.

Although undamaged in the incident, he was forced to stop on the blocked road and when he attempted to get away again, the engine failed to restart, giving him no option to retire.
