SEAT has clinched the European Touring Car Cup for the second successive season after Danish champion Michel Nykjaer took victory in the annual end of season event at Adria.

Driving for the same GR Asia team that took Ryan Sharp to the title last season, Nykjaer picked up 18 points out of a maximum 20 to ensure he followed Richard Goransson and Sharp in securing the ETC crown in only the third running of the event.

Nykjaer took second behind Thomas Engstrom in the opening race which meant he started seventh on the grid for the second race thanks to the reverse grid rules. He then drove brilliantly to carve his way to the front of the pack, overtaking the BMW of Kristian Poulsen in the closing stages to win the second race and clinch the title.

“I am very happy, this was the best way to end the season after winning the Danish title,” he said. “It was hard to overtake Poulsen but I really wanted to win this race and the cup and now I hope that this will help me to get to Macau to compete in the WTCC finale.”
