Tomas Engstrom was left to wonder what might have been at Adria after missing out on the chance to secure the European Touring Car Cup for the first time.
The Swedish driver was one of the pace-setters throughout the weekend and qualified on pole position ahead of the similar Honda Accord Euro R of Jens Reno Mψller.
When the opening race kicked off, Engstrom controlled proceedings from the front as he stormed to victory giving him the advantage in the battle for the title going into the second race.
Forced to start down in eighth place for race two as a result of the reverse grid regulations, Engstrom was left with work to do when the second 19-lap encounter got underway and while he did well to come through and take fourth place, it wasn't enough to secure the title with Michel Nykjaer adding a victory to his earlier second place to pip Engstrom by just three points.
I have been quick over the weekend but I am a little bit disappointed not to win the cup, Engstrom reflected. We have had a bad season in the Swedish championship, but we were a bit luckier here.
I finished third last year, second today, maybe 2008 will my time.
