Wiechers-Sport man takes crown in Macau.

BMW were able to celebrate snaring all title available in the World Touring Car Championship after Wiechers-Sport driver Stefano D'Aste lifted the Independents Trophy.

D'Aste went into the weekend ahead of Pierre-Yves Corthals and Luca Rangoni in the standings – although Corthals was removed from the equation in the opening race when he hit the wall at the first corner and suffered suspension damage to the Exagon Engineering SEAT Leon which forced him to retire.

It left Rangoni to take victory in the race ahead of D'Aste, leaving the title fight as a straight-battle between the pairing going into the final race.

"I am more than happy because it was a very difficult year for me with a new car and a new team," he said. "At the start of the season we had a lot of problems understanding the car and the right way of getting the best out of it.

"From the third race things changed and we improved race by race."
