Alain Menu admits he is more than happy to have been confirmed as part of the Chevrolet line-up for the 2008 World Touring Car Championship season.
The RML run squad confirmed yesterday [Monday] that it was re-signing Menu and team-mates Rob Huff and Nicola Larini for a fourth season at the wheel of the Lacetti, with the team looking to build on a fine 2007 campaign which yielded seven wins and saw it close the gap to SEAT and
BMW in the manufacturers' title.
Of those seven wins, five went the Menu who managed to convert every pole position he secured during the year into victory, although a failure to score on eleven occasions meant he was unable to fight for the title as the season progressed.
However, going into the new season, the former BTCC champion said he was looking to build on the pace displayed during 2007 to try and clinch a first World Championship title, with the Lacetti having improved with every season it has contested the series.
"When you have scored five pole positions and won five races in one season, the one thing you want to do is stay where you are," he said. "I'm sure the new car will even be better than this year's, so the challenge in 2008 will be to have a bit more luck in the second races and be able to score more points there.
"The new success ballast system will in any case force every driver to go for points at every occasion, so everybody will hopefully be a bit more careful. My objective for '08 therefore is to win the title, but I'm sure quite a few others have set their sights on that as well, notably Nicola and Rob."
