I think we need to allow for the first two or three races to get an understanding of how competitive we are, and what the
FIA will do about it if we're still a second-and-a-half behind the diesel engines in the SEAT turbo. From then on I think it should be good racing for the rest of the year.
That much is assured, with the WTCC proving to be nigh-on impossible to call in recent campaigns, as nine drivers went into the final meeting still with a shout of glory in 2006 and six did the same thing in 2007. With not only the five-strong SEAT onslaught but also the trio of Chevrolet Lacettis, James Thompson's new N.Technology Honda Accord and a swarm of other
BMW 320si to worry about, Priaulx is well aware it will be no walk in the park this year.
It's always nice to have four titles behind you, he admitted, so people know you can win championships and there's no doubt there. I think the odds [on taking the title again] would be pretty good.
I wouldn't bet against it, but equally I'm not taking anything for granted I respect my competitors far too much for that. I think it's going to be a great season with great racing, and hopefully I'll be in with a really good chance to win it.
I think it's exciting and I'm very much looking forward to [the opening round in] Brazil next week. I just have to concentrate on my driving and perform at the very best, and optimise both the car and the driver's performance. The rest is out of my control.
