Rickard Rydell has cast doubt on SEAT's chances of converting their qualifying pace into a race win, despite joining Yvan Muller on the front row of the grid at Curitiba.
With all five cars inside the top ten, SEAT showed impressive pace in qualifying for the first round of the season, but Rydell is not convinced they can maintain it over a race distance.
The Swede, returning to full-time WTCC action after a year on the sidelines, admits the Leon is struggling to look after its tyres over a full race distance due to the greater pressure placed on them by the heavier diesel engine.
Just like Yvan said, doing more laps with the tyres will be different, he admitted. The turbo-diesel car makes a little bit harder to go through the race as we have to cope with the front wheel drive.
Nonetheless, the former British Touring Car Champion is delighted to have marked his return with a spot on the front row of the grid and is confident of a good result nonetheless in the races.
I'm really pleased to come back to SEAT. I like the championship and having tried other categories I really enjoy the World Touring Cars. To be on the front row together with Yvan is a really good start.
