Pierre-Yves Corthals got his Independent Trophy aspirations off to a good start by claiming the privateer pole position by a comfortable margin.

The best of the seven independent runners for much of the weekend, Corthals filled the gap between the works and privateer entries in 15th overall, half a second up on second place Sergio Hernandez.

Racing the only privately-entered SEAT against a barrage of BMWs, the Belgian was pleased to have established the early edge over Proteam and reigning champions Wiechers-Sport.

“It is good for me to come here and be competitive straight away, because we did not test during the winter so I am happy,” the Exagon Engineering driver said. “Our petrol-powered cars has a different set-up compared to the other SEAT so we'll see the way it will behave during the race.”
