Tiago Monteiro has completed a two-day test at the Monteblanco circuit in Spain as he continues to get used to the SEAT Leon TDi he will drive during the 2008 World Touring Car Championship season.
The Portuguese racer, who had his first outing in the car during the season opener in Brazil, completed 80 laps of the circuit north of Seville last week with the test being undertaken to help the team gather further information about the diesel-powered car.
The team ran with new suspension geometry, new shocks and a new version of the TDi engine, with Monteiro happy with how the test had gone.
"It is always good when we finish tests knowing that things went well,” he said. “I drove a lot and it enabled us to improve various aspects of the León TDI. The track is fairly slippery and the first day it was almost impossible to hold car in the corners. But we did well in helping our car evolve and we succeeded in adapting to conditions which are pretty similar to what we will have at Puebla.
“Obviously, all the results achieved in testing do not necessarily translate in races, but the steps we are making are positive so far. I am also satisfied from a personal point of view because each kilometre behind the wheel of the car represents a new experience. At the end of the second day we managed to make the best time, which demonstrates that the technical solutions that we adopted are good and that my adaptation to the diesel engine is continuing in the right direction."
Jordi Gene and Rickard Rydell were also present at the test.
