James Thompson is to run a double campaign in the 2008 season after adding an entry into the Danish Touring Car Championship to his commitments in the World Touring Car Championship.
The N.Technology driver, who will start his WTCC campaign when the European season kicks off at Valencia, will partner Jens Moller for the Hartmann Honda team, giving him extra experience over the course of the year with the Honda Accord Euro R that he will use in the WTCC this season.
I will not want to make up the numbers in Denmark, the former BTCC champion said. The guys at Hartmann are very enthusiastic, and I see no reason why we cannot win races or be on the podium consistently.
I have only seen the series from the outside, so I don't know it that well, but I will do as best as I can. If you have a good team and a good working ethic, I cannot see why we cannot win on any track, we will race at. Our chances should be as good as anyone.
Team manager Hans Hartmann was understandably pleased to secure the services of the Briton for the season ahead.
I am very happy and also proud that by using our international contacts we have managed to make a deal with James so that he will be racing the DTC races that don't collide with his WTCC programme, he said.
I got a very positive impression of James, when I spent time with him at a test in Valencia earlier in the year, when he drove one of our cars. James is a very serious and gifted driver, but on top of that he is also good company.
I sincerely hope that we will be succeeding at the right end of the field. It is now or never.
