Andy Priaulx will hope for more luck in Mexico this weekend as the World Touring Car Championship returns to Puebla for the second round of the season.
The
BMW Team UK driver endured a frustrating weekend the last time that the WTCC visited the venue back in 2006 with a best finish of seventh from the two races on a weekend when issues with the circuit somewhat overshadowed the action on track.
While the venue was missing from the calendar last year while work was carried out to bring it up to the standards required for a WTCC event, Priaulx admitted that he was struggling to look forward to the race this at a circuit where the altitude is expected to work against the petrol powered cars.
“I wish I could say that I was looking forward to the Puebla race as my last visit there in 2006 was slightly coloured by the track itself, but we all had to cope with difficult conditions due to it breaking up,” he said. “However, I did prove you must never give up as I battled through to seventh position in race two from 18th on the grid, despite being hampered by a full 80 kilos of ballast.
“The fun of being in a world championship is the different places we visit. I am confident the organisers will have done their best to improve all the facilities.”
