Ahead of the opening races of the European season in Valencia this weekend, the World Touring Car Championship has revealed the improved television coverage package in place for the 2008 campaign.
Eurosport Events, the promoter of the WTCC through its subsidiary KSO, has signed agreements covering 160 countries over the five continents with 62 channels set to broadcast coverage through the remainder of the 2008 campaign.
Perhaps the most important news in the new package for the 2008 campaign is terrestrial coverage in the United Kingdom on
ITV4 through a highlights show the week after the race events, as well as improved coverage in Russia and Japan – which will play host to a round of the WTCC for the first time later in the year. Further deals see the WTCC broadcast into Mexico, Slovenia and the Middle East.
Agreements have been renewed to continue coverage in range of nations including Spain, Italy, Brazil, China and India and François Ribeiro, commercial and TV rights distribution director of Eurosport Events admitted his delight with the new deals in place.
"We are very pleased to note that the TV coverage of WTCC is growing all over the world," he said. "WTCC is not only a great sporting show but a powerful communication platform for leading brands, especially through extensive broadcast coverage and new live streaming services.
"We are confident that this year's season will deliver another success story in terms of reach and exposure around the world, building on past successes."
