Having failed to score in the opening two meetings of the World Touring Car Championship season, Rob Huff kicked off the European leg of the campaign in fine style with a win and second place at Valencia.
The Briton outscored all of his rivals during the Spanish race weekend and now lies seventh in the championship standings as the leading Chevrolet driver.
Eager to get his season back on track in the third round of the year, Huff was on the pace from the outset and was first and second on the times in the two free practice sessions on Saturday.
Having found a good set-up on his Lacetti, Huff was then left disappointed when rain arrived in time for qualifying and he had to settle for the fourth quickest time – although he was then promoted to third when team-mate Alain Menu failed the ride height test after the session.
"I am pleased to be at the sharp end of the grid, but obviously a little disappointed at the same time," Huff said after qualifying. "I set a first and second time in this morning's sessions, so I had hoped it would have stayed dry in the qualifying session since I felt I was very close to a pole position time.
"We didn't change too much on the car other than adjusting the front roll bar as we have only done so little running in the rain the last seasons it is always a bit of a gamble when you're supposed to get everything correct in just one half hour."
Huff soon hit the front in the opening race, which was progress in itself as he had been caught up in accidents at the first corner in previous years. Once out front, he controlled the race to secure his third victory in the series.
From eighth on the grid for race two thanks to the reverse grid rules, Huff stormed up the order to finish in second place behind team-mate Alain Menu to cap a fine weekend for the Chevrolet squad.
