Defending champion unsure about lack of pace after qualifying for the latest rounds of the World Touring Car Championship at Brno.

Andy Priaulx admitted he wasn't sure why he lacked pace at Brno after qualifying down in tenth place for the latest rounds of World Touring Car Championship.

Despite carrying 58 kilos of ballast on his BMW Team UK BMW 320si, Priaulx was hopeful of a good run in qualifying after a solid performance in testing earlier in the week at the Czech circuit.

However, once the session kicked off, Priaulx – awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List – could only post a time of 2min 10.093secs, which was over a second behind fellow BMW driver Alex Zanardi, who took pole for the first time.

“First of all I want to say well done to my fellow BMW driver, Alex Zanardi, for his first qualifying pole in WTCC,” Priaulx said. “I was able to set a time half a second faster than my time today in testing earlier in the week, so am not sure why I could not repeat that. However, that is behind me now.

“I love this track, have done well here in the past and know that a good result is possible. Let's just wait and see what tomorrow brings.”
