Defending World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx has apologised to his team for not being able to turn their hard work into results in the most recent rounds of the season at Brno.
The
BMW Team UK man endured a tough weekend in the Czech Republic as he struggled with 58 kilos of success ballast aboard his BMW 320si. Although he managed to set the pace in the opening practice session of the weekend, it was to be the highpoint for the champion after he was only able to manage tenth on the grid in qualifying – putting him on the back foot for race day.
Unfortunately for the Guernseyman, he was only able to finish 14th in the opening race and then took the flag in ninth at the end of race two – leaving him pointless from the weekend and putting him down a place to fifth in the standings.
However, Rob Huff was later excluded from his podium finish which promoted Priaulx into eighth place and allowed him to retain his fourth place championship position.
"I have to now look forward and not back," he said. "For some reason I was never able to get my car working properly after the free practice sessions. We just never found the ideal set up. It has not been through any lack of work by my RBM boys. I just want to say a big thank you to them for all they did this weekend and sorry I could not turn this into a result.
"If you carry a lot of handicap weight and don't get the set-up 100 per cent right, such a Sunday is the outcome. We shall work hard to make sure we are back in the fight for top positions for the Estoril races."
