Sergio Hernandez and Stefano D'Aste help Proteam Motorsport to the Independent Trophy Team title.

Proteam Motorsport have wrapped up the Independents' Trophy team title after another strong performance from their drivers at Monza.

Although increased competition from Wiechers-Sport and Engstler Motorsport, as well as the sole Exagon Engineering effort, had threatened to challenge Proteam's dominance of the privateer championship, the combination of Sergio Hernandez and Stefano D'Aste has already been enough to win them the crown four races early.

Currently, Hernandez holds a comfortable lead in the standings after a seventh win of the season at Monza, while team-mate and reigning champion D'Aste has slipped 22 points adrift.

Nonetheless, their added totals place Proteam, who run BMWs in the series, 119 points ahead of Engstler Motorsport in the team standings, thus winning them the first title of the 2008 WTCC season.
