We could do with more articles like this here on Crash. It's very easy to jump to conclusions about things like top end advantage when you aren't aware of, or don't consider, all the subtleties of set up.

Luca Scasa either has one hell of motor or is very good at curling into a tiny little ball.

You'd have thought he's that big he'd screw the aerodanamics and knock a big chunck out of the top speed but ....

this would explain alot...the parkalgar bike has always been there or there about....also this was sam's first race and he's still getting to know his new team etc...

i don't think he or anybody else should be dissappointed..it was a blindingly good race and he was central to the drama...he's made his name already...some of those overtakes were sublime and he's got a big future as long as his consistency is good and he doesnt start chucking it up the road...

he's such a likeable chap too....i doubt simon or sam read this but if they do a big thumbs up to all of you....the future is bright and that result was well worth a smile and a beer :-)

roll on donnington guys :-D

OH, please .... that Honda is slow, just admit that the Yammie is faster and had a better set-up. Cal showed us all in 2009 when he broke those Hondas to dominate that year. Honda is just worried that Yamaha is back on that grid.

Nice to see a concise and sensible explanation from Buckmaster without it being expressed in his usual sour & beligerent manner, even the light criticism of his rider is tempered with overall praise.....either he's found a better balance of his medication or he's getting layed.....

I'm really surprised Backmarker didn't throw Sam under the bus for not getting the best drive out of the final corner. The good news is, I think Sam will just get better from here.

I have utmost respect for what Buckmaster has achieved and continues to, but he really does talk some crap!

Of course gearing has an effect, we all know that, and the wrong gear going onto the straight could mean less power, etc. But that bike wasn't faster, or in the right gear anywhere, if what he says is right!
Sam was passing everyone when the bike was either braking, or on its side round bends, nothing to do with power.

On the straight it could only keep up with any of the other bikes if it was in their slipstream, and that was just to keep up, not pass.

He should have kept his mouth shut (except to praise his exceptional rider) and got on with sorting the engine!

Whoever said Whitam and Burnical should read this was right, they could have a good laugh!!

@Buckmaster lover

Why do you assume Simon B must be talking bull, just because Lowes was making his moves on the brakes?

It doesn't mean Sam didn't have a little more midrange than the others - the differences are very small and you wouldn't necessarily see them from the tv.

BTW, great move to take the lead on the final lap. I have raced a Phillip Island myself and that is a ballsy ballsy place to pass. Sam deserved the win, gutted for him.
