It's hardly a surprise the gap is being diminished. Everything is being done by Dorna to dumb-down the prototypes and this will only continue with further fuel restrictions, standard ecu's, rev limits and less tyre choice.
Whatever happened to the concept that racing was about the fastest and the best? Now of course, it is just a 'show'.

let's not get excited just yet. we all know the gap is smaller only because bridgestone has a special tyre for the CRT teams with more grip and stability. the race everyone was expecating Espargaro to do really well because it started raining when he started in 9th I think he dropped like a stone in the ocean behind the other protos because the rain tire was same to all. CRTs isust a way for dorna to fool people into believing there are more bikes racing than there's really.

'Aided by the advent of the softer rear tyre option for the CRTs this year'

Well, there you go. The CRT's aren't getting any faster. They already have more fuel, stickier tyres. If I was head of dorna, I would just make all the manufacturers lease engines to privateer teams.

Yamaha have got the right idea, the Honda bike just seems a bit anti-competitive.

This is a great article! Nice to see Aleix improved much this year. It's encouraging to see a CRT doing great in the premier championship. Hopefully he'll keep improving & the new engine (come September) will boost his performance further.

Yeah, I agree that his earlier seasons' results weren't that fantastic. But I guess & hope people can improve thru the years. We had our ups and downs, hadn't we? Perhaps late developer/bloomer? So, I think one shouldn't write him off immediately. Yeah the super sticky tyre and all these other things assist a little here and there. But at least this year he's done a wonderful job & from the chart shown, he's clearly improved much & he pushed hard!! Current result reflect his improved performance. There's a clear difference! He can be proud of what he's accomplished & a part in contributing to some exciting moments of the recent races. But, hey, don't we all want to have more riders pushing towards the front? And, he's in great shape now. I believe t

I believe that's the attitude one should cultivate! Yeah, perhaps he's not as talented as the top few guys, but still, he give his best shot! So, guys, give him a break, give him a chance to prove his worth further! :)

Yeah, his previous MotoGP rounds not that successful, but hopefully this time round things can turn better. Hopefully too, Suzuki, with their factory machines, can make a solid return next year. And, if Aleix is selected, perhaps he can better realise his MotoGP prospects. Keep it up, Aleix!

Just my $0.02 observation.. :)

Well, that was well put Calvin..
There's been a lot of blokes in the past given a chance too, and they're still backmarkers... I sure hope this will be different, but I've my doubts.
