F1 » Mercedes and Pirelli get reprimands for 'secret' tyre test

@Taz I'm not saying the rules allow current drivers. They don't. But there is this ridculous carve out for Pirelli to test without the same rigour of definitiion within it. So there's a grey area there and Mercedes interpreted it to their advantage as much as possible. And then Charlie said it was OK. Given the same approval i can't imagine any team that would have done differently. The FIA screwed this up big time in my book by giving a team permission to get away with something that "everyone knows is wrong" but might not technically be illegal. It's a farce. Speaking of, does anyone else find it unbelievable that Pirelli is expected to develop tires without extensive testing using the very machines they are intended for. I wish they just allow one "tire" test for each team during the year or a general test milage limit with some percentage to be used for tire testing.

F1 » Mercedes and Pirelli get reprimands for 'secret' tyre test

It's OK to "cheat" if Whiting tells you it's OK to do so!! The FIA said asmuch, but has to save face by finding someway of punishing them anyway. This a spirit of the law vs. letter of the law case. If sport is top of mind, you care about the spirit, but if business, meaning extract EVERY advantage you legally can, then you only care about meeting the letter. It's clear what was most important here. Do you really think any other team on the grid wouldn't have done the same.

F1 » CotA seeks end to Hellmund wrangles

Recognize that we think of this like fans that just want to see good racing at a new track. They think of this as a for profit business venture that just happens to involve racing. And no matter what business you're talking about, when money is involved, big money in this case, the "can't we all just get along" approach is a pipedream. Like Rick, i'm just praying they don't screw this up.

MotoGP » Pictures they'd rather you didn’t see...

"Back in the day" road bike technology wasn't related to race bikes to anywhere close to the same degree as it is today. So it's not that race bikes have gotten worse. Instead road bikes have gotten better because of them. Plus it's an inaccurate comparison of the performance between eras when the environments, i.e. regulations, are completely different. Do you really think a modern 1000cc bike wouldn't be a 300mph rocket if they weren't deliberately slowed by the rules? To say there's been no progress is simply ridiculous.

NASCAR » Johnson calls for end to ovals in IndyCar

The circumstance at Vegas did not GUARANTEE this was going to happen. This wasn't the first time they'd ever been there and certainly isn't the only place with similar conditions. After all, beloved Indy also sees 33 cars and 200+ mph speeds too. It is too narrow a view to only blame the Vegas track and doesn't get to the root cause. Anytime an Indycar is flying toward the fence, it's a coin toss which way it's facing when it gets there. To date, luck had been on the side of those that hit it tub first. The root cause for flight is the design of the cars and their closeness at speed. I agree that the opportunity for this is higher at some tracks than at others. The reality is though, that this is an Indycar problem, not just a Vegas one, and this could happen anywhere.

F1 » McLaren tells Hamilton: There has to be give-and-take

McLaren has been my favorite team for a very long time and i'm defintely a Hamilton fan. I think he's faced a lot of recent criticism through overblown whinging by his competitors or "advice" from formaer drivers trying to stay relevant. However, even the most sublime talent is meaningless without sponsors that are happy to spend money for you to display it. He's not fully appreciating that. Lewis, i love ya but you're being a petulant ass and need to grow up.
