F1 » Prost saddened by Renault exit

The Reanult Team are part of the heritage? Shame fior France? Exactly what was Renault and French about the team? The name perhaps, and the flag, but lets not forget it was essentially still Benetton/Toleman from Oxfordshire. Renault are still an engine supplier, which is something they've had far more success in, so why be saddened?

F1 » Group Lotus enters Renault partnership

Sorry Martin, your last paragraph is complete tosh! 'Group Lotus Renault' isn't a new entity. Lotus have bought a few shares in a team from Genii Capital who had bought a few more shares from Renault. Lotus /Proton have also bought the naming rights to the team, though they are too late to change the officially entered name unless they have the agreement of every other team.

F1 » Group Lotus enters Renault partnership

So new team F1 Team Malaysia bought the rights to use the Team Lotus name from the previous owner of the since closed down team. Now Group Lotus, who had nothing to do with the original Team Lotus (for quite a while at least) have now sponsored a team that was in existance when Team Lotus were still running (As Toleman and then Benetton). Looking at it this way I think I'd side with Fernades.

F1 » Gascoyne: Name argument a 'slight hiccup'

Mostly right Andrew, Team Lotus was sold by Group Lotus (it was run as a separate entity for years) and ran as a team for a little while before David Hunt bought it and it then closed. MalaysiaF1 or whatever they are called (Tony Fernades' team) entered a licensing agreement with Group Lotus (effectively Proton) to use the name "Lotus Racing" in 2010. Tony Fernandes then arranged (or bought outright?) the rights to use "Team Lotus" from David Hunt for 2011 onwards. This is what has pi$$ed off Proton who now claim David Hunt didn't ever own the rights to the name, though they have never contested it in the past.
