There seems to be a total absence of logic in Max's proposal. I know I wont have enough room here to really express myself, but here goes. I live in the land of One Make Racing from the highest level of racing to the lowest. The IRL is Formula Honda, NASCAR is Formula Saloon Car, Grand Am racing is Formula Roller Skate! The lower levels (FBMW, IPS and Formula Atlantic)are all single chassis/motor/tire combinations which is where it should be. The highest form of development and technology MUST NOT be bastardized into another spec racing series! That is not what Formula ONE is supposed to be! The ALMS and Le Mans may be the only High Tech racing left!

Ooooooopppps! Sorry guys, I didn't realize that this was NOT a serious discussion about Lewis Hamilton's talent. My laptop got slow on me so I didn't see the "original," posts before I made mine. Doesn't matter anyway.

Having observed Lewis'' meteoric rise from F3 to F1 and having been one to tout him as a potential champion, I have to say that his current standing as the best non-Ferrari racer is crucial to his becoming something other than the greatest racing driver since Stirling Moss to have never become World Champion is hanging in the balance. I was a Stirling Moss Fan from the Fifties, I watched him race and I own today, his first four books as well as Mike Hawthorn''s two books. I am definitely not taking anything away from Stirling''s accomplishments. Maybe Lewis ought to take up endurance sports car racing on his off weekends. BTW Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks and Roy Salvadori rank at the top of my!

I will be attending the "Champ Car Atlantic," tests tomorrow and Tuesday at Laguna Seca. It will be interesting to see what falls out. Champ Car "Owns," Formula Atlantic and I didn''t see any reference to Atlantics in the bankruptcy discussion. I have made my concerns known elsewhere. Be interesting to hear the guys tomorrow. The Red Bull driver development programme is designed to sell Red Bull! I watched the American version of the programme with much interest as I was working with a young man who was turned down for being too old. Yet he was either the same age or younger than the poor hapless souls who were chosen. If the RB programme was supposed to develop drivers a major portion of the programme should have been directed at promoting them in their own country...Didn't happen here in America, mate. Then again America doesn't have weekly motorsports news magazines in which to sell the stories of the drivers. American drivers like Charlie Kimball go to Europe and race F Ford, F3, Euro F3 and WSbR! Who cares!

As one who remembers the heyday of Farina, Taruffi, Villoresi, Ascari, Musso and Castelotti as well as Baghetti I understand Minardi''s frustration. don''t forget that there were more Italian racing teams; Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, Osella and Minardi that competed at that time. It happens in cycles... There was DeAngeles, Alesi, Patrese and Regazonni. Some of the new boys seem to think that because they are Italian, they have the right to be there... GB

Why don''t they wait until the eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute? what these Bozo''s haven''t considered is the effect it will have on those people who had planned their vacations around whatever series they finally come up with. Also leaves alot of tracks out for the coming year! Brilliant!

I once brought up Dan Partel''s name as the director of ChampCar. Dan ran the European Formula Drivers Association (EFDA) from its inception in 1979 to the final race in 1999. EFDA started with Formula Fords and produced such champions as Ayrton Senna and Mark Blundell. In 1989 EFDA introduced the Vauxhall/Opel Lotus racing series Anyway Partel expressed no interest in working for Kalkoven/Forsythe/Gentilozzi. Upon due consideration...No one ever said that Dan Partel was goofy.

Politics? There have alway been politics involved in Formula One...They seem to have been escalated since the days of Enzo holding his breath until the FIA came around to his way of thinking. While I wasn't happy with the manufacturers politics, I thought the intra team politics between Fernando and Lewis were riveting! Add Kimi's, "Oh, poor me." whimpering to the mix and it became even more interesting. Egos built up and egos crushed. At least there was no bulking up or performance enhancing drugs or illegal dog fighting involved with Formula One!

The last "customer car," to win a Grand Prix was Jo Siffert when won the Grand Prix of England at Brands Hatch in 1968 driving Rob Walker's Lotus 49B. the last "customer car," to race in Grands Prix was a Lotus 79 driven by Hector Rebacque in 1979. I know I can't tell you my web site but being older than dirt, I have a rant on about "customer cars."
