THIS is what bugs me about Lewis. An article about Paul di Resta and his chances of an F1 seat, and the comments inevitably spin around to being about Lewis. This article has nothing to do with him, yet more comments mention him than Paul.... makes no sense...

I think I'm more a fan of WRC&DTM than F1, hence why i don't particuarly want di Resta to dive into F1, because having followed his career since his F3 days, i do think he is potentially the biggest British talent in a very long time. I'd say he performed more than "quite well"... when he achieved some amazing results in an old spec Merc in 07, and proved he was worth the 08 car this year, by frankly embarrassing the other Merc drivers with his Championship efforts. This is why it worries me that if he jumps straight into an F1 car, especially the Force India, it won't do his career any good if he isn't at the front beating Lewis, who i guess will be the benchmark for rookies from now on.

I've said it before, di Resta deserves so much better than a Force India. It's a shame he is so desperate to get into F1, because another year in the DTM, or hell, even GP2 could potentially open so many more doors for him. He also really needs to get a new manager.

Ohhh Dafydd, I could not agree with you any more!! The Matthew-bashing on this site does my head in. I marshalled in the service park at the Wales Rally GB, and even there I got fed up with people/other marshals(!) bitching about Matthew! It's unreal, just get over it already. 2009 will be Matthew's fourth year of his five year plan: at the end of this, Malcolm will do what's right for the team, whether Matthew is his son or not. But I do think Malcolm needs to let Matthew off the leash a little, especially in '09. We saw in New Zealand how fast Matthew can be when he's under no pressure to finish in one piece: if he was allowed to apply that speed every rally, I think he'd be right up there

Even though I am gutted that Subaru have gone, I agree with Dafydd: I don't think it will be as bad as people are making out. There is not JUST two teams/four cars, now Stobart are confirmed there will be at least seven or eight cars, plus however many 'extra' Citroen's there are... The DTM has "two teams", and is a really fantastic series, so I really don't think the WRC will struggle that much!

I am a massive di Resta supporter, but I can''t help hoping he stays in DTM in 2009. Force India will do no good for his F1 career, he needs to hold on for a season, get the DTM title and then jump into a semi decent F1 car, where he can at least fight for points.

Oh My God, will someone change the record re: Matthew Wilson! No matter how many times the point is made that people "are sure he's a great guy", the fact is that he DOES has a WRC seat, and Malcolm will NOT be trawling Crash.net, see people don't think his son is worthy of a seat and haul him out of there! It's so boring seeing people whinge and moan all the time. Anyway, Latvala gets my vote.

I'm guessing, 18... He deserves a lot better than a Force India. A year in GP2 would be ideal i think, get him back into the swing of single seaters. Hopefully by then Heikki will be shown the door and Paul will get the seat he does deserves in a decent car. I can't see him going anywhere else other than McLaren.

Paffett was screwed over by the Mercedes machine: gave up his seat in DTM having been told a McLaren race seat was his, only to then be told Hamilton had said race seat and he would continue testing. He's back in the DTM now, but in a year old car. I think di Resta deserves an F1 drive so much, but NOT with Force India. Give him a year in GP2, then put him in Kovalainen's seat.
