WSBK » Stiggy Honda confirms demise

What a good discussion really! lot of ideas. Its only an idea, but food for thought. The other main factor is getting someone to put the effort in to it all that it would need. When I first started in racing there were so many small professional teams running 500’s in British Championship, Shell Sport, plus all the featured races, Race of Aces, Power Bike etc. And also going to do the internationals in Europe, Imola 200 and so on. But this was also helped by riders like Barry Sheene and others. But Mainly Barry as he had media pulling power. When he and Kenny and the other top riders then would battle it out week after week! cont.

Cont from above In return members would be basically team owners! Online members only web site where there could be many articles on their team, news stories all the team personal, riders, daily news blog. Fans news stories on anything m/c racing, with special deals on clothing and equipment? competitions, prizes, riders answering fans questions, interviews. Also there could be organised team testing rallies couple times a year? maybe possible reduced race ticket prices., etc etc. An idea??

Actually thinking about it there might be a way to sponsor/run a team properly even resurrect Stiggy's squad? by way of the collecting funds via like a cooperative team? The team would be owned by its members. If an association was formed by lets say for argument the Crash.net readers this could be expanded to included all motorcycle racing fans rising funds my way of memberships, dare I say it even attract outside sponsors. If membership was restricted so in time there was a waiting list then founder members there membership might be worth something to sell on as in might start to have a value? Cont below

All the comments are interesting. Everyone is right its so hard to attract sponsors. I tried a few times but you need a team just working on that all the time, like F1! 10M in WSBK would last a lot longer than you might think. Only working off what it used to cost KR team to rum for one year and was making and building everything in-house, engines were supplied at the end but still had to be paid for. So for the level and budget Stiggy would need in WSBK and you didn't want to make too much profit maybe around 3 years, but as someone mentioned the first year usually is a learning curve, if they had longer and that team had some good people in it, the future could have been good.
