F1 » Alonso’s Ferrari farewell ‘emotional’

I realize my comment reads as laying the blame essentially exclusively with Alonso. Sure Alonso's share of the blame is debatable. I'll give you that, and admit that I am a fan who does respect his pure ability to drive. Either way, we can all see that the bottom line is Ferrari has definitely blown it recently, for whatever reason. Hubris over their vaunted signing didn't help at all. They seem to have done at least some soul-searching. I actually hope they pull their heads out of their butts pretty darn soon, especially because I'd LOVE to see another title (or more?) under Kimi's belt.

MotoGP » Rossi gives thumbs-up to new chassis, swing-arm

It never really sunk in until reading this that Rossi an Lorenzo accomplished all they did this year without the trick gearbox Honda has. It seems to be the one element we can all agree is a real boon to Honda, and if it really makes the bike that much easier to ride, I can only imagine what Rossi can do next year, especially since this year's Yamaha (first half of the season, at least) was considered second best even without the transmission deficit.

F1 » F1: Alonso takes ‘satisfaction’ from beating Raikkonen

When Alonso moved to Ferrar,i he was known for some reason as a vaunted test driver, worth as much as "a whole second" in car development. However, what we've seen pretty much since his Renault return (iirc, 2006 was less dominant than 05 even) is him take the car given to him and wring its neck, allegedly responsible for the (relatively) good results, but not the routinely bad ones. I respect his ability to make the most of a dog car, but it seems like he gets in, drives, hits a wall. While he is bagging the better results this season, the fact that he plateaued early and that Kimi is making tangible (if slow) progress with an unfriendly car, coupled with Kimi's history of positive package development, shows me a difference in their working methods. Alonso is most surely a driver you want if the package is fast, but if it requires much work and long-term results matter, go with Kimi -- who better not make me look stupid next year.

F1 » Raikkonen: Team points more important

I'm becoming convinced that Kimi's discomfort with the car and particularity, along with history of being able to develop a car to his liking are signs that he is the driver Ferrari needs to turn things around. Alonso seems too enamored with his own talent and "obvious" superiority over the machine to actually contribute to a good Ferrari, and the results speak for themselves historically. Looks like Ferrari is getting its act together again, going with two more recent WDC-winners than Alonso, as well as their last winner.

F1 » F1: Raikkonen sees definite Ferrari progress

I'm starting to think that Alonso's legendary development skills aren't really quite what anyone thought they were, after such a long period of non-improvement. Honestly, looking at Kimi's history with Lotus, McL and 2007 when Ferrari focused on him, etc, he's a pretty good development driver, his package generally improving year after year. Gives tentative me hope for next year if he's leading the testing.
