F1's always been about a combination of having the best car and driver skill. Barichello's a multiple GP winner and might (?) have had a shot at a title or two were he not playing number two to Schumi for years. Button's been unlucky with the cars he's had, but he's taking the opportunity now he's got it - in my opinion, they're both great drivers, as is Alonso and look how he's going now his car's not so good.

And would he care to explain Red Bull? No diffuser there and they're kicking his **** all over. This year's Renault is a dog - less moaning and more engineering your way to a good car sounds like a good use of time to me...

I'd love to see Eugene back in GP, but after what he had to put up with in 250, I can understand a bit of reluctance there. I wonder what Parkalgar's future is though? Racing 600 Hondas at the front of a World Championship, some GP experience on the team, Vodafone sponsorship at the last round (does anyone know if this is ongoing?)...it wouldn't sound too daft for the whole team to go to Moto2 once everyone's figured the lie of the land would it? Even if my fanciful imagination is proved wrong (again), there's a lot to be said for being happy at work...

I'm really happy about this - Sykes has acquitted himself really well over the year and on a bike that just didn't look as though it suited him. It'll be a good to see him back on a proper lairy four, good luck to him!

Great news if it ups the profile of the championship. What ever happened to Seedorf? And the marvelously named Totti Top Sport?

@VRob Point taken and I'm sure his management know more than me, but I just think WSBK presents a bigger risk than Moto2 might have done - you need to do something very special to get out of WSBK and into MotoGP (Edwards, Bayliss, Toseland, Spies) whereas going from 250s/Moto2 you can be...well, Hector Barbera. Toseland perfectly illustrates the difference in standing (rightly or wrongly) between the two series: two seasons of total underachievement in MotoGP and he lands WSBK's hottest seat! Either way, we're the winners as WSBK is looking like one hot series next year...

Good news for James. I'm not so sure for Cal though, I'd have really liked to see him in Moto2 - as someone's already mentioned, he seems to go better on the smaller bikes. Good luck to him though, I'll still be cheering him on because he's exciting whatever he rides. As for Sykes, yes he's been unlucky to be Spies's team mate, but at times this year I've got the impression that the Yamaha maybe doesn't suit him - if he can get a works Suzuki seat next year I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the podium. Basically, good luck to everyone and I really hope Cal hasn't shafted his MotoGP chances

The times look pretty respectable - if he really could have dropped another second I think he'd have been signed right there! I hope to see him on the bike next year for real.

I know the Championship doesn't lie, but I really believe Pasini's better than fifth place all things considered. Also, after 2007 in the 125s (which looked at the beginning destined to be his championship year) if anyone deserves a bit of good fortune, it's Mattia. Add to that that he always comes across as a really nice chap and I, for one, can't begrudge him a GP ride - I hope his arm can stand up to the bigger bikes and that he does well

I really hope Randy stays - he's had a great year so far and has finally got the trick of staying on! He's great to watch, seems like a nice guy and it's always looked as though LCR really want him. It's refreshing to see some loyalty in the paddock, I reckon Randy will repay it. Oh, and Playboy - why would he want to leave?!

So he's allegedly colluded with Piquet on an a deliberate crash? Surely the best thing to do when faced with questions such as 'Did you arrange for Piquet to crash?' is to lie through your teeth and deny everything? Not answering questions at all just makes Symonds sound like an amateur. If you're going to cheat, at least cheat properly...

Step forward Mr Cooper...I know it's wet and all, but still if the weather doesn't improve tomorrow that'll be a hell of a qualifying. Props to Sykes too - he's had a great first year so far and it would be really good to see him cap it with a few podiums.
