I love the comment
"The problem is that nobody – Ducati or the factory team – has tested the bike with this sort of weight added and therefore we can''t guarantee the safety of either the parts fitted or the weight fitted and we don''t know about the stability of the bike, the brakes, or whether it is going to stress the engine more."

Brakes, engine, safety ??? so there has never been a rider that weighed 10 kg''s more than the heaviest BSB/Ducati combo? or 4kgs more than the current WSB/Ducati combo? hmm

Makes poor reading as an engineer. Soapbox stuff.

Personaly I dont think that Haga will need much time to adapt to the Ducati, in 2004 he won the 2nd race of the season on the Ducati against the likes of JT on the Fila Duc Sure he be a force to be reconed with from the outset. I think Shakey will need to be at his absolute best to hang with Haga

for me the absolute nuber of accidents are still lower than in the 500 days, just look at the number of retirments / accidents in 2001. Racing motorcycles = accidents, it will always be the case. the question is how to make the accidents that happen safer. Ignoring leathers etc. the best way I see of making it safer is to target the dangerous accidents - HighSides. As a club racer i much prefer the front to wash out than to highside, its cheaper and a lot less painfull

GEORGE - your so right about shakey being a god on a bike, infact i'm sure he'd win on a honda C90 . . . So where has he been for the past few seasons ? was'nt winning then. I like shakey but he's not what make the Duc fast, otherwise he'd have win the championship on the Suzuki and Honda aswell. BSB is suppost to be about the bikes in the showrooms. Ducati were given an advantage to try to make it even, it went too far so they have to be reignedin before teh season continues.

"Surely, bigger engine, more fuel and oil, therefore heavier?" na with respect to oil and water R1 02 17l fuel, 3.8l oil, 2.7l water, 193kg full of fuel oil water gsxr 1000 02 18l fuel, 3.6l oil, 2.4l water, 173kg dry Ducati 1098 15.5l fuel, ?.?l oil, ?.?l water, 173kg dry TLR 98 17l fuel, 3.6l oil, 2.3l water, 197kg dry RSVr 01 17l fuel, 3.6l oil, 2.3l water, gsxr 600 98 18l fuel, 3.5l oil, 2.5l water, 175kg dry CBR 600 03 18l fuel, 3.5l oil, 3.5l water, 169kg dry so no real difference between 1000 4's, 1000 twins & 600 4's

Shame that opinion is so biased one way or the other. If Airways had said that compliance was difficult in a few days, there would be sympathy, but to just shout safety, and unfair! when ducati above all manufacturers manipulate the rules to suit them for so long is frankly a laugh. As Ducati said to the 4's if you dont like it leave. Not a good appoach but at least consistant. BTW some of us race too if only at club level. So we understand better than most the weight issues and the effect it can have. Adding weight can help, as you can fine tune the weight distribution far more accuratly than using other methods. The rules dont say add 10 KG lump

I'd prefer to see all manufacturers represented in BSB, BUT I'd rather lose ducati and keep everyone else. The Superbike championships are suppost to be about what we ride on the road, its not. look at the stats on race wins Ducati over history have order over double that of any other manufacturer because it's their ball and their rules! If the results were to belived everyone would ride a Ducati on the road because they are far better than anything else buy race wins & all club racers would use ducati because nothing can compete. Its just not the case Ducati need an advantage to enable them to win. WSB BSB have always given in to them Time to Stop.

Nice to see that Ducati will be involved & even better that they will play with the rules laid down. Well done to MCRCB for not giving in to the pressure.

haliburt - have to disagree with you. If you want fair racing, go single manufacturer, all up weight so light riders have no advantage. Superbikes are different, tyres are a component just like chassis, engine, fork, shock, rider etc.. Why wernt ducati banned because of the advantage their bikes had and were winning everything, the 4 cylinders were complaining? Personally I want different tyres, bikes, shocks etc. Some times you get equality, well that reflects the real world like Superbikes are suppost to. How many Club racers do you see on Ducati's? Very few because they are not competitive, thats the real world. ASD
