The comments saying Casey is a one hit wonder because he hasn't won in the lesser categories are simply foolish.
As are the TC comments - ignorant at best.

Casey was always right with Pedrosa - who always had the best bike in the field.
Stoner did exceptionally well considering he never had a competitive bike until 2007.
Remember he put the LCR on pole in his second race, and very nearly won his third race.

Rossi is arguably the greatest rider ever and Stoner - to this point - is the only rider that can take the fight to him.
Last year it was Rossi keeping up with an inferior bike and this year Casey is doing just that.
Anyone who states Rossi is past it or Stoner never had it is a tool.

I would say that the Ducati has more torque tahn it's competitors as opposed to outright power. It seems to hook up better out of the corners which sets it up for the straights. Ducati have also invested a lot of money into their aero package - remember how different the nose of the 990 Duc looked to the Honda and Yam? it had afat nose more like a Busa - so i think their aero help in the top speed. Also i noticed at Laguna coming onto the main straight Rossi's bike was wheel standing more than the Duc, which can't help maximising it's accelearation... the Duc kept the front rubber on the deck more.

The Rossi groupies would have to be the most petty and malicious fans out there. Rossi is great but you fans do your hero no justice at all. Even Rossi has recently said he doesn't want fans like you... you embarrass him with your childish rhetoric.

This could be an awesome race! Brno lends itself to overtaking more than Laguna. The master and the apprentice. Bring it on!

Rossi had factory rides in 125 & 250cc. He has never not had factory support. Stoner never did until Ducati. Elias t-boned Rossi at the start of the 2006 season... but it was when he beat Rossi (can't remember the track) fair and square that Rossi labelled his racing as out of control and dangerous. That's what people are referring to regarding Elias. Rossi was just as bitter as Stoner was after Laguna.

And you mentioned Dovi... i think you can include him on the list with the four riders i mentioned. If he gets the Repsol Honda ride next year i reckon he'll win a race or two. He's doing a fantastic job this year.

Twista i'm not having a go if your comments are directed at me. I'm just enjoying the debate. Rossi got the factory spot because it was clear he was a huge talent and a force to be reckoned with. He didn't prove Honda wrong either - until he went to Yamaha that is. Stoner has never had a factory ride until Ducati took a chance. He wasn't their first choice but i'm sure he's right up there on the wishlist of teams now! He nearly won the 250's on a satellite bike, had he not chucked it out of MG getting too hard on the gas too early he probably would have won... I can't remember a WC on a non factory ride in any class.... anyone know of any?

I agree RXRacer. Rossi is indeed one of the very best. His record can only be compared to Doohan and Ago. Stoner has yet to prove his worth and i've never stated that he is an all time great, but he is young has time on his side. And he's the only rider to ever COMPREHENSIBLY beat Rossi. The fanboys can't see the wood from the trees.

Rossi inherited Mick Doohan's spot in the Honda garage. His bike, his crew, everything. He brought Nastro Azzuro with him as he was still under contract with them, but Honda wanted him. Look at the lower fairing on his 2001 bike - Repsol.

VH MP, as RXRacer has already correctly pointed out, the Nastro Azzuro Honda was a full factory team. Nastro Azzuro were Rossi's personal sponsers.. Full Factory ride all the way, JB and crew in his garage... As for the number of crashes and finishes... all i can remember was Rossi crashing a lot! but he certainly had the speed, as does Stoner. And Rossi won against Creville, Roberts Junior, Biaggi and co... Although great riders none get a mention in the 'best ever' argument.

Yamaha won Championships with Rainey, Lawson and Kenny Roberts. Rossi is definitely one of the greatest ever - you won't get any argument from me there. His switch to Yamaha took courage and paid dividends to his ability. But i think the fact that Stoner can dice with him should pay credit to Stoner. He's not racing against anybody he's trying to beat one of the best ever.
