Why has Rossi waited until now to start racing?

He should be in that frame of mind all the time.

How much advantage do michelin qualifiers have over bridgestone... i know the gap has shrunk but are they equal yet? - Paul#46!!! If you take the the top 7 michelin vs top 7 bridgestone so far this year, in qualifying Michelin fair bit ahead, in racing about even (slight advantage to bridgestone). Melandri, is it a slump in form or not comfortable with bike and team? Kawasaki need to pull their finger out.

If it rains heavy and there is alot of water on the track, it will be all Bridgestone. If it rains a little and just coats the track with water, than it will be Michelin. (I think thats right!) If it rains at all and the track is wet, I think we can assume Pedrosa will not be a contender along with Lorenzo. For the Rossi fans, rain at this stage will be the best scenario. Rossi can ride in the wet (not as good as some others) but he will be much higher in the standings than Pedrosa. Even if Stoner wins and Rossi in top 4, more valuable points for him to jump ahead of Pedrosa. The two USA GP's I think will play a large role this year.

Give it to De Angelis. He's been loyal to Honda and has talent.

Part 2: Personal opinion: The new tyre rules may have helped bring michelin back to bridgestone. Last year michelin seemed to struggle with the limit on tyres. Plus it helps michelin cause that all the Yamaha machinery is strong this year. (+ Pedrosa). Sorry about bringing the responses back to tyres.

Part 1: No to a control Tyre. As most of the riders have already expressed: it is a prototype class of racing, including tyres. If there is a control tyre, the tyre company will not put in the amount of research that that would if there is competition. At the moment Michelin is streets ahead in qualifying tyre and only a small amount ahead in race tyre. I think it's lucky that Bridgestone signed Rossi (or the otherway around), because if Rossi stayed with michelin, bridgestone would be a fair bit behind.
