Bleedin' hell simon, I'm trying to educate you here. Do you even own a dictionary? Have you read the Snopes page yet? That's enough of my diversion on this thread anyway, I doubt you can back up your etymology with anything at all and I've given you plenty of info (not just assertion), so case closed. Go Jenson and Hamilton - yes indeed. I'm loving having two top brits in the sport. :)

Did you read the snopes page, simon? Or a dictionary, as I recommended? My copy of Collins backs up the Snopes, as does the OED online. Pomegranate is a rhyme for immigrant, close enough for slang anyway. Pomegranate can be shortened to pommie, and in Australia the pommies are immigrants. Try reading something factual one day, you might learn something.
