Refreshingly, Button was talking candidly, rather than the usual "PR Speak" so often trotted out nowadays. But inevitably the 'sour-grapes' brigade have got to snipe and sneer.
Well done Button - it's really good to have another British World Champion.

As I recall we didn't eradicate too many races during our colonial "aquisitions" - and in most cases we administered those possessions well (and better than many of the governments that followed independence). There is resentment against the British in several European countries which goes back generations - from our dominant position in the world pre-WW1, and our being "independent" rather than "European". Remember that, since the Norman times, we have never been invaded (Channel Islands apart): rather we have at times occupied large swathes of European territory. Holiday makers behaviour affects only a very small area of the country, and is hardly significant.

Over 16,000 hits at last count. However, look at Spain's history: The Spanish Inquisition - hardly a W.I. group. The "Conquistadores" conquering of Central and South America - or rather the annihilation of whole races - Incas, Mayans And the humiliation inflicted upon them during Tudor times after the defeat of the Armada, and later with Nelson's defeat of the combined French and Spanish fleets at Trafalgar both really still rankle. So it's hardly surprising that they have such a prejudiced view of the British. Although as for their racial prejudice - considering their blood lineage back to the invasion by the Moors, then they're really not in a position to comment......

Why not go back to what they do best - building good engines. Leave the racing to the racers - i.e. Williams. The Japanese always achieved their best results as engine providers. And the technology spin-off from F1 engines will surely be relevant to an assault on Le Mans.

F1, along with all forms of motorsport, is a TEAM sport. Yes Ferrari prompted the "knee-jerk" rule - but teams have always been operating that way - just not as blatant. So, sure Ferrari deserve everything they get because of their arrogant attitude back in '02, but this affects all teams. What happens in Brazil if HK is ahead of LH, and McL need to reverse the positions - well thank goodness a precedent this season has been set. They can hardly penalise one team for something another team was not punished for........can they??? Best thing is to get rid of the rule altogether. And maybe for the drivers to have the balls to ignore such calls over the radio, if made.

As I understood, HK's retirement was due to brake failure, not engine related.

Well no surprises here - of course he would defend his position - however, his links to Ferrari should automatically bar him from being involved - but of course it doesn't does it? Some "impartiality" there! And looking at the credentials of some of those involved in the various dubious decisions, experience of motor sport seems to be fairly low on the list. Of course having been supporters of Mosley has nothing to do with matters.... Hopefully the coverage and calls from all parties to revamp the stewarding procedures will be such that the FIA cannot ignore the problems in the hope that it will go away.

If ALL the drivers were honest (or given a truth serum) they would agree that they don't care who wins, if it's not them. Their self-belief has to be that strong to be able to push to the top. Not since the sixties has there been a champion who was not of that make-up (Jim Clark). Mind you, if KR was completely candid, he'd probably admit he'd rather LH win rather than his team-mate...

@scoop - I suspect your comment was "tongue-in-cheek" - but there is more than a grain of truth there - and when you consider that the Stewards went against Whiting's directive that Bourdais was the innocent party, and that they are "advised" by one Alan Donnelly - MM's representative - who also happens to have Ferrari as one of his (Donnelly's) clients, then we can be forgiven for wondering about impartiality. And as for the other posters - well their "names" say it all. If you're serious - register.
