F1 » Booth praises ‘awesome’ Bianchi

Taipan - not the same at all (Tamara Ecclestone). Maldonado's funding comes from PDVSA, as another example. They come with a package that the team needs. "Sponsored" drivers go back to the dawn of racing - Tim Birkin was backed by Dorothy Paget when developing his "Blower" Bentley - even in junior formulae drivers are required to bring a percentage of the team's budget (just check the classifieds in Autosport around seasons ending for the following year). Yeah - he's not the fastest, and daddy does back him. So what? Would it be more acceptable if he received backing from GSK or Astra-Zeneca?? The Tour of California (bicycle stage race) is sponsored by Amgen - who produce EPO - should they be prevented from backing that race? Your observation that his was the 7th fastest lap means he somehow put something together, although popping a tyre on Raikkonen's Ferrari was not too clever. Constantly harping on about a perceived injustice only serves to diminish the original argument,

F1 » Hakkinen: 'Hamilton looked like a sore loser'

Googol - your comment is spot-on. Trouble is that most of the Hamilton fanboys have no knowledge of F1 before 2007. I remember watching the TV footage of that awful incident - and, sadly, I have too many personal memories of the dark side of the sport. The comment by another that it is acceptable to do "questionable" things is laughable. Did Fangio? or Clark, or Stewart for that matter? In their times, acts that Senna and Schumacher have pulled would have resulted in injury or worse - and would not have been contemplated. Obviously he has no knowledge of (or interest in) the earlier years.

None of drivers like losing (well who does?). But sh*t happens, to quote another driver. It's how you deal with it that counts. Interestingly, this year we have seen two very different reactions to just such a situation - one from the current WDC to yet another race-ending problem, and, of course, the one that everyone is talking about. The maturity shown by one, is "balanced" by the total lack of that by the other. In many ways, this year, Vettel is showing "class" in reacting to, and dealing with, the many issues he has been faced with. Kudos to him (surprised myself by saying that). Let's hope that Hamilton, should he actually manage to win this year's WDC will behave in similar fashion. Something tells me he will not.......

For all the slagging off Chilton receives, whether justified or not, as a $$$ driver, surely that is his one very important contribution to the team - $$$. Budgetary constraints are well known - and not just at the lower end of the grid - just think of John Booth's comments on how much his latest upgrades cost. If a more talented driver (maybe sponsorless too) occupied Chilton's seat those funds would not be there, and maybe the downside of that might more than compensate, negatively, than their nr. 2 driver tooling around at the back.
