Refreshingly, Button was talking candidly, rather than the usual "PR Speak" so often trotted out nowadays. But inevitably the 'sour-grapes' brigade have got to snipe and sneer.
Well done Button - it's really good to have another British World Champion.

A very very sad day. A fine and versatile racer, and as already mentioned, a gentleman.

The info I got was on our (US) feed from Steve Matchett (ex-Benetton mechanic) who is part of the Speed TV team - I was thinking of the Massa incident. Raikkonen's was, as you say self-inflicted. We didn't get to hear anything from Dommenicali (probably on one of the infernal commercial breaks).

Rich ard - apparently Ferrari's pitlane release system is automatic - there is a sensor on the fuel inlet that detects the release of the nozzle and turns the light on the overhead green. The Chief Mechanic has an override. Reckoned to save 0.3 per stop. Speculation was that they turned it off after the Massa incident. I have to say I was surprised there wasn't a drive-through - nothing to do with which team or other such rubbish, but we now have something of a precedent set - if a similar scenario occurs later in the season, then that WILL be interesting.....

Hill was very reminiscent of his father - achieve by application and hard work rather than the by the innate talent of some of their contemporaries. That should in no way detract from their successes. Prost may have seemed "boring" or less than spectacular, but he won 4 championships, which speak far higher than a particular style of driving. Mark - Schumacher and Hakkinen had their coming together at Macau in the F3 race - again it was MS who initiated the "move". Sorry - can't agree on the Adelaide incident - he'd hit the wall, knew full well his car was finished. It may have been a "spur of the moment" decision, but followed previous form, and '97 would confirm that. Just a shame Hill hadn't sighted it, and held back - history could have been very different - ah well 20-20 hindsight...

The significant comment is that Schumacher did not win for five years - now leaving aside the '97 fiasco, he did not have tantrums or make comments designed to destabilise, he set to with his team on the pitlane to achieve the results. If Alonso was to show THAT kind of inner strength, then he could be considered above Schumacher - as far as I know Alonso has never deliberately collided with another driver (MS at least 3 - Hakkinen, Hill, Villeneuve) to win. And learn from having a team-mate who may be as fast as he is.....

Of course, the biggest benefit of the "sharkfin" casing will be increased advertising space...

Certainly the SC rules are way too complicated, but as for Piquet - yes, he 'lucked' into his on-track position, but he made the most of it - his speed was respectable enough to keep the likes of Massa at bay - only Hamilton passed him after all. I'm sure there were no "sour grapes" on Webber's part, but some of the comments here sound just like it...luck is one of the most important factors in a race - just ask Webber - after all, his 5th place in Melbourne with Minardi owed just a bit to luck...
