F1 » Ferrari revival: Where it all went right

The requirements of a race driver and test driver are totally different. For a test driver you need one able to provide good feedback and to be able to drive the car at a consistent pace and report the effect of changes on the behaviour. Highly rated drivers such as Ronnie Peterson and even the late, great Jim Clark were not particularly good test drivers - Lotus would never let Clark do more than a few laps each time they made any changes, as he would instinctively adapt his style so the effect of a change was masked. Graham Hill, and later, his son Damon, were both far better testers as they could give the engineers the feedback needed. Jimmy Clark just took the car and disappeared into the distance! So, although Alonso is, rightly, judged the best, or most complete, race driver, that in no way dictates that he would be the best test driver. Politically, though, his influence seems to be a destabilising factor wherever he has been, and that, maybe, is the flaw in his makeup.

F1 » Stevens unsure if Manor will qualify for Australian GP

Fullofit: Liam ... your comments add zero value to this website ... yet here they are for all of us to read and hate ... so even in this situation we can't say they add nothing to the site.
Let's extend your version of logic to other teams, presently in F1 - Williams, Lotus (ex Benneton), Red Bull (ex Stewart/Jaguar) - according to your thinking, none of them would be on the grid today, because, when they were in their infancy, they struggled around at the back of the grid. But, being RACERS, they worked at it, and gradually grew into teams that, at one time or other were the DOMINANT team of the day. So just open your mind to the possibility that Manor (software permitting) might just, at some time down the road, repeat, or improve upon their Monaco result. God forbid that their 2015 car, when it debuts should be a good one.....
