F1 » Ferrari prepared to quit F1 over mandate move

richard:
here4thesun2: Alpha Romeo being pitched to join undercuts this bluff. They want two engines to pass info back in forth to hasten development.
????? there is not going to be a actual alfa romeo engine, merely a ferrari engine badged as an alfa romeo ! and ferrari already get info from sauber , so there would be absolutely no benefit apart from marketing the brand.
I wonder why they would want Alfa Romeo back in F1 - surely, with the aim to pitch Alfa at BMW and Audi, the DTM (return) would be a more logical series?

F1 » Mercedes: We won’t let drivers pursue bad strategies

Interesting to compare this race/driver with Button's calls on strategy in the 2011 Canadian GP. Whilst conditions were totally different, it was Button himself who was making the calls to McLaren on when to change tyres, to great effect. Mercedes, for all their engineering excellence do seem to be running races in a "corporate" mode - a shame they don't seem to be able to run by the seat of their pants where necessary. While they have their advantage over the field this might work, but once this is gone, then they'll need a good strategist who can make the calls - or let the drivers have the input they should have.

MotoGP » MotoGP Race Director explains Rossi punishment

Webb has basically called Marquez a liar - which, in this case he most definitely is. There's no question he was trying to impede Rossi, rather than just race him fair and square. As for collusion by Spanish riders, well there's a precedent there, in professional cycling - in the 1985 Vuelta, Robert Millar was set to win until collusion by Spanish teams effectively robbed him of the win. Irrespective, it all leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth - no-one, Rossi included comes out of it well.

F1 » Hamilton on verge of equalling Senna record

richard: wow. different times, different cars, etc. so it is certainly not too hard to get more wins than a previous champion. it still will not make lulu great. there have been great drivers in the past who only ever won a few gps, and lulu comes nowhere near being as well thought of as those.
See the assessment in Autosport for British F1 champions - he's only 3rd behind Stewart and Clark (I didn't agree with their placing JYS above Clark, though.)
