Refreshingly, Button was talking candidly, rather than the usual "PR Speak" so often trotted out nowadays. But inevitably the 'sour-grapes' brigade have got to snipe and sneer.
Well done Button - it's really good to have another British World Champion.

Exactly, Sunny. Some people don't understand that there are "interpretations" to rules - nothing is ever black and white - thank goodness!!!

Until the scrutineering for the first race, nothing can be contested over legality or illegality - Whiting could only give an opinion - which he did on the diffuser - also on the original Ferrari exhausts, subsequently changed. Pre-season testing is just that - otherwise Toro Rosso could not have used last year's car, nor McL last year's rear wing. Hopefully sanity will prevail and Whiting/the Stewards from 2 GP's decisions' will be upheld. Can you imagine the uproar if Lotus had introduced the 79 ground-effect car in today's atmosphere - well it happened a couple of years later when their twin chassis concept was barred, so there is a precedent for lunacy.

This sport ceased to be a "sport" in '68 when Lotus brought Players in - remember Gold Leaf Team Lotus??

This has stirred up so much "holier then thou" rubbish from "supporters" of other teams - probably one in particular. They should remember that their chosen teams have all bent the rules in the past. AS for this incident, listen to the radio - they (McL) acted quite correctly. Whitmarsh contacted the stewards after to get a clarification on the passing/repassing. Ryan's action was almost certainly a "heat-of-the-moment" mistake - he's been given his punishment - the team's lost their points from the race. Leave it at that. Oh - and I'm not a McL supporter - just one who enjoys good racing, and so far this year it's been just that.

I see Alonso has added his snide remarks, about Hungary '07 qualifying. A shame he cannot keep his own counsel. What everyone seems to ignore, in these comments, is that in the radio exchange McLaren were absolutely to the rulebook. In this instance, I really think it was one man only (Ryan) who misled/lied. The FIA have acknowledged Hamilton was "placed in an impossible position". Precedent is already there (from '07) to ban a person from F1 - if they judge it serious enough, then that would be a fair punishment. There are enough knee-jerk reactions from the stewards already.

Well said Bernie - hopefully more pressure like this will push the stewards to adopt a more realistic attitude.

If you were asked by your employer to conceal facts, or to be less than truthful to an official enquiry, would you do it? I'd like to think I had the b*lls to say no, but thankfully have not been put in that position.....easy to be clever and self-righteous in these comments - but in the real world, not so cut and dried. Not that I condone his actions (LH) in any way.

JDS - your abuse is very sad. All my comments were FACTS - not opinions. We were very grateful to America's help in both conflicts, both before and after the actual declaration. Of course, economically the US came out in a very strong position, not least because of the repayments under "lend-lease". If you don't like the facts, then not a lot can be done. Oh, and by the way, although I am British and proud of it, I actually live in America, so see both sides of the coin.

Richard - The RAF were on the point of rejecting it as originally fitted with the Allison engine because of it's poor performance at altitude. It was only after the Merlin was substituted that it became the superb aircraft (it should have been at the start). The same problem affected the P40 - due to a single rather than 2 stage supercharger being used. Oh - and the name Mustang is British too (The USAF were initally going to call theirs "Apache" but decided to adopt the RAF name).
