RECOMMENDED COMMENT
22 agree.

Refreshingly, Button was talking candidly, rather than the usual "PR Speak" so often trotted out nowadays. But inevitably the 'sour-grapes' brigade have got to snipe and sneer.
Well done Button - it's really good to have another British World Champion.

Hamilton awarded MBE.
To rich ard - honours for "unsung heroes" - well there are those given out as well. If you look at the full list, it's long enough to put an insomniac to sleep. All are well-merited (well except for those given to retiring civil servants etc). But it's a whole lot better than other systems, and living as I do with a presidential head of state, I'd far rather be there with the monarchy/parliament. It's only when you experience the alternative you realise that our (British) systems are actually rather good. Oh - I have a Z28 Camaro convertible - '94, black, so getting toward a classic,an 04 A4 Quattro, a '77 T140V Silver Jubilee Bonneville (Triumph), and a '98 Ducati - bikes in UK, cars in US

Hamilton awarded MBE.
1 agrees.
(Sir) Chris Hoy has dominated his sport through several Olympiads - he changed discipline when his previous event (kilo) was dropped by the IOC for BMX racing, and has become probably the fastest track sprinter ever seen. And his 3 golds at the one games are more than any won by a Brit for a century So I would suggest his knighthood is more than justified. If you have followed cycling (road and track) over the past 10 years or so, as I have, you'd know the impact he has had on his sport. Certainly, those who only know of his exploits through the recent TV coverage might wonder, but dig a little, and you'd see he was very much the MS of his sport (without the questionable tactics).

Irvine: I'd sack Kimi if he doesn't perform!
1 agrees.
A Happy New Year to all the posters - good and bad, sensible and sick. we'll never agree with everything - and thank God for that!!! Lets's all hope that 2009 brings a good racing year, with no tragedies - one we can look back on in 12 months and say "Wow!"

Nice to see some sensible comments - and I for one completely agree with the post above. EI has always spoken his mind - whether you agree with it or not is your problem. I always felt he would have proved to be an excellent champion and ambassador for the sport had he won in '99 - just what was needed to counteract the "greys" and PR-speak.

Toyota backs Ferrari in revenue row.
1 disagrees.
From a different angle, I see Massa has come out AGAINST cutting driver's fees - well he would wouldn't he - just as all the others would. However, in the present climate, they need to temper their requirements just as much as the teams needto cut their costs. In fact, they'd better get ready for some major "realignment" of their salaries otherwise some of them could very quickly find that instead of earning 40-50% of something, they earn 100% of nothing. Regarding BE - yes, I think it's maybe full-time for him, but let's not forget how he pulled a disjointed group of teams together, almost singlehandedly, and has largely built F1 to the level it is today. I doubt anyone else could have.

So who hit the "thumbs-down" button on my post, but didn't have the balls to make a comment? That's just spineless.

Stivala Sunny seems to be no fan of anything other than hurling abuse. Must be a very sad deluded life. Sunny, you have my pity. And as someone else on another post remarked - it has gone very quiet about Nigel Stepney's case. Of course Ferrari would never indulge in devious skulduggery would they??? As for the Raiders - one of the best stadiums to visit - just a shame it's not for rugby!!! And living away from home this side of the"pond" I miss the Sports Personality" every year - a shame. Maybe "doors" should try running a marathon - 'London' is a great race to participate in. And certainly not boring to watch either live or on the 'box.

Well done Chris Hoy - anyone enjoying track cycling on the TV should go watch it live - it is spectacularly exciting (and "slightly" less expensive to get into should you want to have a go).

Ecclestone: Honda 'no great loss' to F1.
In some ways he's both right and wrong. Wrong in that ANY team leaving is bad for the sport, given how few are in right now. But right, in that Honda (nee BAR) have never achieved anything very much over their time, other than a couple of seasons (until, ironically Honda took full control) and one win. And so many of their decisions have been questionable or even laughable (getting rid of Geoff Willis and Dave Richards come to mind). Fry's comments often bordered on the incredulous. And then, just as they look like having a chance of something respectable - Honda pulls the plug. Let's just hope that there is a 3rd incarnation, and that it will truly be "3rd time lucky"
