F1 » F1: Webber to Button: Get on with it!

otto6457: I'm so tired of all the nonsense in F1 that the WEC looks better all the time. Jensen could do a lot worse than joining Weber at Porsche. The WEC race at COTA was more fun than the F1 race at COTA.
I watched both F1 (2012) and WEC (this year) "live" at COTA - the WEC racing was infinitely better - in all aspects - than F1 - and that was the old incarnation, never mind the asthmatic sounding iterations we have trundling around now. I really hope he (JB) does make the move - and announces it just as McL tell the world he's staying!!!

F1 » Ecclestone: ‘No point’ F1 targeting young fans

richard - how old were you when you developed an interest in Motorsport? Me, I was in my very early teens - but I had absolutely no knowledge of the workings of the sport. That, I developed though reading MN and Autosport, as well as going to Brands for every possible meeting, later further afield. I found I was welcomed as a fan/spectator wherever we (me and my mates) wandered at the circuits - there was none of the "exclusion" mentality that is so prevalant today. If we had been stopped from going into the paddock after the meetings, or met with resistance, we'd just have gone away and found another interest. Many $$$ (my keyboard doesn't do Stg) would have been lost to the sport from me, my mates, our families, (and a certain Rupert Mainwaring might have gone into another profession). Society today is very different to how it was in the 60's, but my son's love of motorsport came from me. My grandson's interest is being nurtured by us. cont'd

F1 » Caterham F1 staff locked out of factory

Substitute the political climate then for the economic climate of today, and you have a not dissimilar scenario, comparing the "haves" & "have-nots". Caterham will not be the last team to fold, as they surely will. The house of cards is teetering on the brink of collapse. And I see that Monisha Kaltenborn has effectively said the same thing today.

F1 » Caterham F1 staff locked out of factory

All a very sorry mess, and not a good advert for F1. Stories such as this (and Jules Bianchi's accident) are the ones picked up by mainstream media - hardly an incentive for new investment in any team, let alone Caterham. In a sense, the whole paddock should be taking a hard look at themselves - remember the reason behind Caterham's (and Marussia's) formation in the first place was the supposed budget cap - destroyed by the established teams (and aided by spankygate). In a way, this is almost a deja-vu situation going back 75 - 80 years - in the mid-late '30's you had two teams, Mercedes and Auto-Union, both state aided, with resources way beyond all the other entrants in the GP's of the day. But for the outbreak of war, one wonders how much longer that situation would have been able to persist. cont'd

F1 » Haas F1 target ‘just surviving’

"Just maybe the guys at the back" - the way things are progressing, by the time his team hits the tracks (assuming they actually make it that far), those "at the back" are likely to be the teams presently well into today's midfield, all the slower teams having already folded/departed. Maybe he's coming to realise that just removing wings (fenders) and the roof doesn't turn a Nasbore car into an F1 car.
