The Yamaha definately didn't have any "Special Go Fast Parts" prior to 2008! Rossi is just that good. Plain and simple. If he were to leave the series today, a WHOOOOOLE lot of people would quit caring about this sport. Say what you will about Dorna making him the GOAT. Even IF they were helping him somehow, that doesn't make people like him. People like him for who HE is and nothing else. He crushes all the newcomers and veterans just about every year and "some" people just can't stand it. One thing is for sure, as long as Rossi races, he will be king and EVERYONE in the MotoGP paddock knows that! There is a level called "ROSSI" and ALL of the other racers are trying to get to it!

I agree with you That Dude and yes I know that he was riding in pain but, I don't think it would have been any different had he been 100%. My favorite AMA rider Jamie Hacking even caught up to him fairly easy and stayed with him for a while in the race and Jamie only had 2 days of testing TOTAL on that Kawasaki before that race weekend. I still think Hacking didn't wanna show him up seeing how Spies has a bright future ahead of him while Hacking may not have many racing years left. I digress. So, I understand that riding with an injury would play a big role in riding a bike around a tight track like Laguna but, like I said, at 100% I still don't "think" the outcome would have been different.

Dovi and Lorenzo had never raced at Laguna prior to this year and they were consistently faster than Spies in practice and both even qualified better than him. Why am I bringing up that race and not Donington? Well, Laguna is a track Spies has done very well at in the past and he got showed up by rookies at that track. Gotta give him credit for at least finishing the race and riding in pain. Spies has alot of hype around him but, I think he's a touch overrated. Talk about having the best of everything? Look at the AMA Yoshimura racing team!!!! No one says anything about their unfair advantage. He's got over 300 laps of testing at Indy already so, we'll see what he's really made of next week.

A certain Red Ducati has led the last million practice sessions only to be showed up during the following races by a man who's done soooo much for this sport you watch. Why is it sooo hard to understand that if you ARE the best, you GET the best? What was Rossi to do? Say no to the better equipment? O.k. he did that, like I said earlier, and he STILL won race after race! I didn't see Stoner leaving Ducati because they had the stronger bike last year. You'll never have to say Rossi is the greatest because, Rossi's actions on the track do ALL of the talking. Spies is a FANTASTIC rider no doubt about it but, he won't go into MotoGP winning right away. Not with Rossi, Stoner and Lorenzo there.

Looks like you're the one having a hard time swallowing bitter pills Geoff Chalk. I'm sure the gigantic bottle full that Rossi has dispensed to sooo many riders is to blame. Never having to do things the hard way? Some people have eyes and don't know how to use them. He's done things the hard way on purpose(Honda to Yamaha) to prove to people like you that he is capable of winning no matter what the odds. However, his equipment has to at least function for him to be able to prove this. He's got the best of everything? To make that point valid, he'd have to win every race and lead every practice session prior to every race and in case you haven't noticed, (continued)

Hey there Gina! Great to see a post from you! It's been awhile. Paul 46, Not taking a single thing away from the other classes but, the Top Class (500cc,990cc and 800cc) is where the bread and butter really lies and Rossi is about to own that class completely. So while Ago can be happy with having the title record, Rossi can soon hold his head up VERY high for having the most Top Class victories which is AWESOME as well! By the way Paul 46, I'm not having a go or anything even remotely close to that at you about that post, I enjoy reading your posts from time to time. I'm just saying Rossi is about to have something that even Ago doesn't have anymore! GOOOOOO ROSSI!

Well folks, looks like I was wrong and that's why I deleted my previous comment. It took Ago 107-ish races(that he actually did start in) to get to 68 top class wins while it's taken Rossi 144-ish races to get to 68 top class wins so, the point I was trying to make doesn't hold water! LOL! The site I got my info from had things I didn't completely understand so, it may have taken Ago even less races to get to 68 top class wins.

I agree with you Jack Mordino. I personally think Ago "may have" been a little bit unhappy with Rossi equaling his win record. I could be wrong though. I have a question however. Didn't the guys back in Ago's day run more races a year than the MotoGP series of the last decade? If so, that makes Rossi's accomplishment even better and could also give better understanding about why Ago "may have" been unhappy cause, it would mean Rossi caught up to his record in less races than it took Ago himself to set the record. Maybe I'm wrong about the races per year back in those days and that's why I'm asking you guys. Any ideas on the races per year back then?

Here's a pretty interesting interview with Burgess from last year. Notice what he says about Rossi's hand in developing tires for Michelin. W x 3.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/more_sport/article1756437.ece Even though Michelin were still struggling last year despite having Rossi, it seems that him switching brands was still a devastating blow to Michelin.

Well Andrew Long, I have to agree with you on the fact that the races are starting to look like a one horse race each time but, it's not Rossi's fault. The intro of the 800cc era caught everyone except for Ducati with their pants down and it was up to all the other factories to reach the bar that Ducati raised sooo high. It now looks like Yamaha is the factory that is closest to that bar and it just so happens to be Rossi himself applying that heavy, factory-backed pressure that Stoner has been experiencing lately. Rossi was called EVERYTHING in the book last year from "Old" to "Washed Up" so, it doesn't surprise me one bit to see him proving to everyone AGAIN that he is by far,the G.O.A.T.!
