FIA Statement: Formula 1 2009
"Overtaking to be banned next season because its too dangerous"

BLOODY DISGUSTING! terrible decision by the stewards, what advantage did he gain for goodness sake? i hope mclaren appeal and win for the sake of F1! i just knew that this would happen, it deters the drivers from trying. you never would have had senna penalised for such things.

has completely ruined one of the most entertaining races of the year.

all they need to do is close the pit lane, then re-open it quicker, it takes too long atm, when the safety car comes out, everyone slows down, then as the saftey car approaches the pitlane entrance next time by, the pits open. at the moment its like two laps causing cars to run seriously low on fuel. and tbh, the teams know this rule is in place currently, so they should be stopping before they get to such a low fuel level that should a saftey car come out, they wont run out of fuel on that lap, so it is partly BMW fault, but yes, theyre trying to get to the front etc etc but still, they know the rules.

lol, actually i think it should be counting the number of successful qualifications for a race, this would remove the occasion of when a racer suddenly falls too ill on the saturday night to race despite having qualified. and removes those who may have failed to qualify for a race in the old systems. so i actually disagree with F1Tos, lol. sorry.

directed at Iain and Rich Ard's little convo... if i remember correctly back when arrows where going out of business back in 2002, they arrived at the french grand prix and purposely failed to qualify becuase if they didnt turn up at all, the FIA or FOM would have to fine them for breaking contract (signed at the start of the year) i think. if im incorrect, appologies, but if im right, the Super Aguri may well have faced the same fate were they not to race this weekend, which with a hefty fine may leave them in a worse situation still and keeping in mind, theres no 107% rule any more, so i dont think cars can not qualify anymore???.

sounds like the thing they use at the ovals in the states all around the track, just with different colours other than yellow and green.

well, im sure bridgestone will continue to develop there tyre to avoid this problem. F1 is the only series to run grooved tyres and one of the only ones to use tyre warmers, yet no other series running slick bridgestone tyres have this problem, so im sure it will all be fine and dandy by 2009.

agree with Dhruv, keeping in mind F1 has a 50 year head start and will no doubt remain a pinacle. but for a1gp to match it, i dont think so, theres good chance that the series could become regarded as the second best series internationally and the series has good potential for appealing to smaller motorracing nations. i see that happening. the ferrari backing will help massivly and maybe in the future it will become an interesting mix of Ex-F1 drivers and drivers rising through the ranks. when that point is reached, i think then it will be competing to be that 2nd series.

not really related to the article, but they really should find more things to run at Rockingham, its a superb facility (i went there to watch an ASCAR/DoT race back in 03 i think it was), lots of empty seats at the time, but a brilliant circuit for fans to visit, but they should run more things there, it amazes me how it remains open! road course is a bit twisty for some things though, but does anything use the oval course anymore since ASCAR/DoT vacated???
