Rossi & Co. really have no choice but to go on the defensive at this point IMO. Sure, there may be a round or two where the Bridgestone/M1 works great from Friday morning, but in most cases Stoner & Ducati will have the set-up data to get a head start from the get-go. I'm not taking anything away from Rossi's ability, I think skill-to-skill he's beyond the rest of the field. This is MotoGP however: tires, electronics, chassis AND rider all have to be in sync to run up front. That said, if Rossi can pull out a championship win this year...it'll be as profound an accomplishment as the Honda-to-Yamaha switch.

My initial response to what happened in race two is to rip Rea's head off his friggin' shoulders... but after a few deep breaths you just have to look at it as a racing incident, one that could've been avoided considering Rea's trajectory was taking him WIDE (Haga became a bit of a berm, MX anyone?), but a racing incident nonetheless. Here's to hoping Haga steps up and rides like the devil until season's end!

Yeah Steveo, cause we (motogp fans) don't like to hear honest assessment from the riders as the weekend progresses  Would you rather each rider just have some PR robot write the quotes from now on :? Get a clue

Dorna put themselves in this position when they ruled to change to the 800's, now the bikes are too damn expensive to run season long without major restrictions! Go back to 990's, drop half (more?) of the electronics and I guarantee we'll have excellent racing

Ooo :-o, can't wait for this. Hopper should do well on a big Honda, he absolutely rocked on a gsxr1000 in his formula extreme days. A bit different background compared to Biaggi, Barros etc. to those making direct comparisons. Nice to know it's a competitive package too with Haslam grabbing a podium.

Biaggi and Byrne: Sounds like a formidable combo to get the Aprilia program up to speed quickly. It'll be nice to add a V4 to the championship too. That'll make it 8 manufacturers in WSB once (if?) KTM joins in 2010. Nine, if MV Agusta puts some of that Harley Davidson money to good use :D Look out MotoGP?

Whew, that was actually a really good race considering, ya know, a hurricane rolled thru :-o! I think, top to bottom, the whole grid did a great job by even riding in those borderline-insane conditions. I can only imagine how difficult it would be getting the bike working consistently with the right tires and suspension settings (oh, and the rider's head!) for that track, 4+ types of pavement in one lap?! That would flat-out suck in wet conditions. There are a lot of comments on here from short-sighted "fans" criticizing some of these guys for ending up down field today, lame  This race was probably the trickiest for ANY of these riders in a race situation.

RW, good point about the overall points standings, but when I think about the big picture I see Honda with the biggest budget & the most bikes on the grid, yet only one of those bikes was in contention for the championship. The RC212v certainly isn't the worst ride out there (the Kawi holds that title by far), but I see them generally dicing with the Suzukis and remaining 3 Yamahas (when their Michelins aren't working). Here's how I see it: If all of the teams were on B-stones, I feel the Yamahas would be piling up @ the top of the standings after Rossi, Pedrosa and Stoner. The remaining Hondas and Suzuki next, with Kawi bringing up the rear (which is sad, because Hopper is great.)

HRC sounds like an impersonal, generally ****** place to be. I'm glad Nicky is getting out of there for a ride on the big red bike. He'll be respected and appreciated at Ducati, hopefully he adapts the quirky GP8. To Gary Bullock: You're completely ignorant, Honda is NOT one of the best bikes this year :?

@ Gaz "Nicko! This has got me excited, 1st Japanese WSBK champion in 2009?! Oh yes, Kiyo. Will wipe the floor with Haga." I don't doubt Kiyonari is going to be a serious force (maybe even surpass Haga's accomplishments eventually) in WSBK in the coming years, but it takes more than one season of lapping the huge variety of tracks the series visits to put together a solid title run. He's got tons of laps on the UK tracks, so I'm not surprised of his success there, but at other times this season he was nowhere.

Edwards is just saying what we've all been feeling these last 2 seasons: MotoGP is edging towards a "dark age" where the machinery and tires are taking center stage, while the riders are (generally) becoming less of an influence on success than before. When you've got multiple riders saying, "Once I hit the apex, I can just pin it and let the electronics do the rest" or "the rider only makes a difference coming into the corner now as opposed to in AND out like the old days", you've got a problem. I'm generalizing a bit sure: the tire war is way off balance too. Anyway, I figure it'll continue to worsen the next couple seasons and then a rule change will have to be made. Limit TC IMHO.
