Rossi & Co. really have no choice but to go on the defensive at this point IMO. Sure, there may be a round or two where the Bridgestone/M1 works great from Friday morning, but in most cases Stoner & Ducati will have the set-up data to get a head start from the get-go. I'm not taking anything away from Rossi's ability, I think skill-to-skill he's beyond the rest of the field. This is MotoGP however: tires, electronics, chassis AND rider all have to be in sync to run up front. That said, if Rossi can pull out a championship win this year...it'll be as profound an accomplishment as the Honda-to-Yamaha switch.

Although I was surprised by Casey's sudden mistake, I couldn't help but think about the obvious state of disaster Michelin is in right now. Apparently Rossi saw the writing on the wall last year: Bridgestone has adapted to the current tire rules effectively, while Michelin is lost despite all of their resources. So many haters criticized Rossi for not remaining "loyal" to the French brand, looks like The Doctor knows best.

As much as I'd like to see 7 more races like the US GP, I just don't see it happening. What contributed most to that fantastic battle was the track itself: a twisty, up and down, no-straightaway-having old school track. It balanced everything out perfectly to put Stoner and Rossi on relatively equal footing: Rossi was unstoppable going into the corner (braking), and Stoner had the edge coming off the corner. I'm not going to try and say one or the other will dominate the next several rounds, but I do think Rossi is the smarter of the two riders. Rossi had a defined, planned tactic to defeat Stoner despite all the odds against him. While Stoner said he was "disappointed he couldn't get past".

If I'm not mistaken, Yamaha will have an all-new R1 to develop next season. That could prove counter-productive to a rider chasing wins! Of course, Troy is among the best development riders in the paddock too, so who knows. Just keep up that new found aggression on the track Corser!

Too many silly editing tricks during the video, barely able to see the car go through a single corner uninterrupted.

RXRacer. Wow, to say Rossi was running ragged edge the whole race while Stoner wasn't is incredibly ignorant. While Rossi did make one overly-deep braking move into the corkscrew that put him in the dirt, the rest of the race he was amazingly smooth...especially compared to Stoner! I saw at least 3 big rear-end slides and 2 or more front end pushes out of Stoner that defined the word "ragged". Oh, and Stoner running off in the final turn? You may have noticed that moment was the closest of the entire race where they both could've been taken out! Not sure what race you were watching, but it wasn't Laguna Seca last Sunday. Maybe you were playing MotoGP on your XBOX?

Agreed Jimmy...Rossi and Co. are showing up to most of these tracks relatively blind with little set-up data using the Bridgestones. It's not a rider-consistency problem, it's a matter of having very little practice time to find a reliable race setting. Anybody looking closely will have noticed that Rossi has looked alarmingly off-the-pace during Friday-Saturday at the last few races, only to barely nail a good set-up on Sunday morning. These guys are working hard, getting themselves on or near the podium at nearly every round with tires that are still very new to them. I don't think there's another team in the paddock that could pull that off!

Didn't see the Q-session, but it's great to see the top few within a few tenths of each other. Hopefully both Rossi and Pedro can sort out those last few setting details to scrap up front with Stoner. Give us a dry race mother nature!!!

Even though a desmodromic system may ultimately be superior to pneumatics for such high engine speeds, I don't see any of the Japanese factories being caught dead running anything with the word "desmo" in it, regardless of design differences to Ducati's.

Pretty disappointing move by Checa after the highly calculated passes he'd made up to that point. Carrying waay too much speed through the last bend to even make the corner. By the way, while Checa was in front by a wheel when the **** hit the fan, he tucked the front by holding front binders too long. I'd hoped for a better showing from a MotoGP "vet".
