Le Mans » Nissan unveils Le Mans contender at Super Bowl

The rear of the Nissan is one big empty hole. What they loose on the front, they gain at the back. Surely some clever heads at the R&D department have calculated how fast this concept can lap at Le Mans (and Le Mans only). With Le Mans' long straights a good aero effect from the sleak rear, the twin turbo engine, the hybrid side and less resistance from the smaller rear wheels might give the car some surprising speed on the straights. It is aimed to get to the max asap out of the corner and run a highs as possible top speed. This kind of innovative thinking is what F1 lacks. Yes, Nissan could have build a Audi/Porsche/Toyota copy. But they didn't. Applause. 4 different concepts aiming for the Le Mans win. Fantastic.

F1 » Jerez - F1 test times [Tuesday final]

Mercedes's Engineer Director claims that Mercedes was running heavy fuel all the time and have not been working on performance setup. So Mercedes does a 1.21 with a near full tank on medium tires without performance setup (including engine modes). They probably could do 1.17/1.18 if they want to. What I heard of the Honda is that the engine is nowhere near peak performance at any time this test. Like maybe running at 60% if not less. I doubt anyone has shown real pace so far and thus it is way to early to say anything about the order.
